Mark WEBBER won his 8th F1 World Championship race at the 2012 Monaco F1 GP, a second Monaco victory two years after his 2010 win. The Red Bull driver started from pole (inherited from Schumachers grid penalty) and won on the streets of Monte Carlo by 0.643 seconds from Nico Rosberg for Mercedes GP. It was Red Bulls 28th F1 win.

Schumacher provisional pole, Webber inherits

Monte Carlo on 27 May 2012 saw Michael Schumacher post the fastest Q3 lap for Mercedes GP with a 1:14.301, but a five-place grid penalty from his Spain race-day collision with Bruno Senna demoted him. Webber inherited pole by 0.080, Rosberg third, Hamilton fourth, Alonso fifth, Vettel sixth after his Q2 gearbox failure limited running. Six different pole sitters in six races so far.

Race day: Webber leads, top four covered by 1.3 seconds at the flag

Webber controlled the race from lights out over 78 laps, tyre-management and Monaco discipline delivering victory. Rosberg second for Mercedes GP after a strong drive, Alonso third for Ferrari, Vettel fourth, Hamilton fifth for McLaren, Massa sixth for Ferrari. The finish was so tight that the top four were covered by just 1.343 seconds. Perez set the fastest lap on lap 49 at 1:17.296 for Sauber.

Championship: Alonso 76, Vettel 73, Webber 73, Hamilton 63

Six different winners in six races, the closest championship in decades. Canada in a fortnight would be next.
