2011 Brazil F1 Grand Prix Race Report & Results

Event: Brazilian Grand Prix
Track: Autodromo Interlagos
Weather: dry, warm, part-cloudy
Mark WEBBER won his 7th F1 World Championship race at the 2011 Brazil F1 GP, ending a barren season with a defiant victory in the finale. The Red Bull driver started second and won at Interlagos by 16.983 seconds from teammate Sebastian Vettel for a Red Bull 1-2. It was Red Bulls 26th F1 win and Webbers first of the season.
Vettel pole for 15th time in the year
Interlagos on 27 November 2011 saw Vettel take his season-best 15th pole with a 1:11.918, Webber second by 0.181 for the Red Bull front-row lockout, Button third for McLaren, Hamilton fourth. Vettels 15 poles from 19 rounds broke Nigel Mansells 1992 record of 14, setting a new all-time single-season best.
Race day: Vettel gearbox trouble, Webber past for the win
Vettel led early but a gearbox concern forced Red Bull to instruct him to short-shift and back off, allowing Webber to take the lead on lap 30 and drive to victory. Vettel salvaged second, Button third for McLaren, Alonso fourth for Ferrari, Massa fifth, Sutil sixth for Force India. Webber set the fastest lap on lap 71 at 1:15.324. Webbers first win of the year was long overdue reward for a season of near-misses and Red Bull team ambiguity.
Championship: Vettel 392 champion, Button 270, Webber 258
Vettel closed the season with 392 points from 19 rounds, 11 wins, 15 poles, and back-to-back world titles for Red Bull. The 2010-2011 era of Vettel-and-Red Bull dominance had begun in earnest; two more titles would follow in 2012 and 2013.
