Who Has Won the Most F1 Sprint Races? A Quick Guide

With the 2026 Miami Grand Prix (May 3) and the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix (May 24) both featuring sprint weekends, now is a good time to look at the numbers.
Since sprints were introduced in 2021, only a handful of drivers have mastered the short format.
The sprint is a 100km race held on Saturday, with its own, shorter qualifying session held on Friday.
The sprint results were used to set the grid for Sunday's Grand Prix back in 2021.
Now, the Grand Prix grid is determined by a separate qualifying session held after the sprint on Saturday, with the usual three-segment format.
Points are awarded to the top eight finishers, with the winner receiving 8 points, down to 1 point for eighth place.
Verstappen Leads the Pack
Max Verstappen has won 13 of the 25 sprints held since the format was introduced in 2021.
He won his first sprint at the 2021 British Grand Prix and has since added victories in Imola (2022), Austria (2022, 2023, 2024), Belgium (2023, 2025), the United States (2023, 2024, 2025), Brazil (2023), China (2024), and Miami (2024).
Verstappen's most recent sprint win came at the 2025 United States Grand Prix.
The Other Sprint Winners
Behind Verstappen, the numbers drop off sharply. Lando Norris has three sprint wins, with victories in Brazil (2024 and 2025) and Miami (2025).
Oscar Piastri also has three sprint wins, all of them coming in Qatar across the last three seasons (2023, 2024, 2025).
George Russell has two sprint wins, first at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix and then at the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix.
Valtteri Bottas has two sprint wins, both from the 2021 season at the Italian and Brazilian Grands Prix.
Lewis Hamilton has one sprint win, achieved at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix driving for Ferrari.
On his side, Cadillac's Sergio Pérez has one sprint win, which came at the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, for Red Bull.
Only seven drivers have ever won a Formula 1 sprint race.
Will There Be New Sprint Winners in 2026?
New names could be added to the list in Miami or Canada, since the new regulations have shaken up the pecking order a bit.
Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli leads the championship after three races, and Charles Leclerc has looked strong for Ferrari so far, with two podiums. But neither has won a sprint yet.
For now, Verstappen's record of 13 sprint wins is beyond safe.
