Pierre Gasly Biography
After the first was the 2015 F1 season reserve driver for the Red Bull Racing team. The French driver made his F1 race debut at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix in the Toro Rosso STR12 with a Renault power unit for the Toro Rosso team.
He was asked by Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost to replace struggling Russian driver Daniil Kvyat who crashed again during the Singapore GP 2 weeks before his debut.
The switch was also done to compare both drivers for 2018 drivers choices. He will drive at least 2 races. He cannot attend to the US GP, because Pierre Gasly can win the Japanese Super Formula championship that weekend.
Gasly was 2nd in the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 series and he won the 2016 GP2 championship. In 2017 he drove the 2017 Super Formula Championship for Team Mugen. His car has a Honda engine...
Gasly did a very good 2017 season. He finished his first race on P14. He didn't win any points that season. He out-qualified his teammates, Brendon Hartley and Carlos Sainz, 3 times and finished the highest in the 7 races he drove. He ended up as 22nd in the 2017 drivers championship.

In 2018 he also drove for Toro Rosso. This season was the first season for Toro Rosso with the Honda power unit. Pierre Gasly out-qualified his teammate Brandon Hartley almost every race and even finished 4th in Bahrain with the new Honda power unit in the back of the Toro Rosso.
On August the 20th of 2018 he was presented as 2019 Red Bull Racing driver to replace Daniel Ricciardo, who had chosen a future outside the Red Bull family and got a driver at Renault for 2019. However, his Red Bull Racing stint only lasted 12 races, as he was demoted to Toro Rosso on the 12th of August and replaced with Alexander Albon due to his struggles during the first half of 2019.
Gasly scored 63 points and no podiums in the first half of the year, which was not even close to Max Verstappen's tally of 181 points and two wins. The French driver only out-qualified his teammate once and only finished ahead of the Dutchman in the British grand prix, after Verstappen's RB15 was hit in the rear by Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari—.
In his first seven races back at Toro Rosso, Pierre Gasly performed very well and scored points in four occasions. In the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, Gasly's weekend started in a bad way due to an engine problem in FP2. However, he recovered and qualified seventh for the race. A grid penalty for Ferrari's Charles Leclerc meant Gasly started from sixth place.
After the majority of the race had occurred, Gasly was on pace to score good points for his team. However, two late Safety Car periods and a collision between the Ferraris of Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel pushed him close to the podium. With second-placed Lewis Hamilton pitting for soft tyres during the second SC period with few laps left, Gasly was running third, ahead of the champion.

Race winner Pierre Gasly of France and Scuderia AlphaTauri, second placed Carlos Sainz of Spain and McLaren F1 and third placed Lance Stroll of Canada and Racing Point stand on the podium during the F1 Grand Prix of Italy at Autodromo di Monza on September 06, 2020 in Monza, Italy
At the restart, Hamilton passed Gasly and was fighting for second place with the Red Bull of Albon. As Hamilton tried to overtake Albon on the inside, both cars touched and Albon spun. Gasly overtook both and was able to hold off Hamilton's charge by just 0.062 seconds in what was a thrilling fight until the chequered flag.
Gasly took his first podium with a P2 finish and called it the best day of his life. After a roller coaster of a season, the Frenchman achieved an unbelievable result for him and Toro Rosso's second podium of the year.
A hit by Lance Stroll at the start of the finale at Abu Dhabi prevented him from scoring points and he had to settle with seventh in the WDC with 95 points.
Pierre Gasly started the 2020 F1 season with great level, scoring points in four of the first seven races for AlphaTauri (previously known as Toro Rosso). In the 2020 Italian grand prix at Monza, Gasly won the race after starting from 11th on the grid and seeing an early pitstop and a timely red flag help him take a lead that he would not surrender until the chequered flag.
It was the first win for a French driver since Olivier Panis won the 1996 Monaco Grand Prix.
After becoming a Grand Prix winner at Monza, Gasly continued to score points with consistency for AlphaTauri. His best result after the Italian Grand Prix was a solid fifth place at the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix after a great race and some nice overtaking moves.

In the 2021 season, now a Grand Prix winner, Gasly was the clear leader of the AlphaTauri team, and he put up some unique performances in qualifying, often finishing in or near the Top 5 on Saturdays.
Moreover, he achieved a podium with third place in the 2021 Azerbaijan GP, and recorded four other Top-5 finishes throughout the season. He scored 110 of the team's 42 points in the season, and finished ninth in the WDC.
In the 2022 Belgian grand prix, the AlphaTauri driver entered and started the 100th Grand Prix of his Formula 1 career, finishing ninth and scoring a couple of points.
Gasly was announced as an Alpine driver on 8 October 2022, which meant he left AlphaTauri at the end of the 2022 campaign to drive for the French team.
Gasly finished the 2022 season with 23 of AT's 35 points and finished 14th in the World Drivers' Championship.
First F1 season with Alpine

In his debut year with French team Alpine in 2023, Gasly produced a solid season, outscoring his race-winning teammate Esteban Ocon and also establishing himself as a faster driver on Saturdays (14-8).
Gasly's first couple of races with Alpine ended up with two ninth-place finishes, at Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. A crash with his teammate in Australia took lots of points off the board for Alpine, but Gasly went on to score in four of the following six races, including a seventh place in Monaco (while Ocon finished third).
Gasly went scoreless at Silverstone and Hungary but finished third in the Sprint Race in Spa-Francorchamps. Then, he achieved a great P3 in the following race, the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.
The podium in the Netherlands was Gasly's fourth podium in Formula 1 and his first since the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Gasly scored points in four of the last nine races of the campaign to finish the year with 62 points and 11th place in the World Drivers' Standings.
2024 F1 campaign; podium in Brazil
Pierre Gasly performed well in the 2024 Formula 1 season, scoring 42 points for a struggling Alpine side. The team failed to score in most of the first half of the year, but they still finished sixth in the WCC due to an incredible race in Brazil.
Gasly and his teammate, Ocon, finished third and second in the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, giving Alpine 33 points in one race. The team ended sixth in the WCC with 65 points, largely due to that result from Brazil.
Gasly then finished fifth in Qatar and seventh in the final race of the year, at Abu Dhabi.
Following years with Alpine
In 2025, Gasly scored only 22 points as Alpine struggled in their final year with Renault power units. Ahead of F1's new era in 2026, Alpine switched to Mercedes engines, and the team improved in 2026.
Gasly scored points in six of the first seven races (and in the Sprint at Miami). At Monaco, Gasly finished third on the road but lost his podium after taking penalties for speeding in the pit lane, falling to seventh.
However, the team appealed, and the penalties were rescinded after the FIA confirmed that their system was at fault (many other drivers were also penalised during the race for the same alleged infraction, which created controversy, as they served their penalties).
It was Gasly's sixth career podium.
However, the result remained a topic of discussion for months.
On 3 September 2026, the FIA International Court of Appeal announced that, after appeals from McLaren and Red Bull, Gasly's penalties were reinstated and he fell to seventh place again. This new change prompted frustrated statements from Alpine's Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore.
On 5 September, in Qualifying for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, Gasly achieved his first career Pole Position, making great use of the upgrades in his Alpine A526. He reached his first pole on the same track where he took his only Grand Prix win in 2020 with AlphaTauri.
