Dec.10 - Maurizio Arrivabene has taken a swipe at Lewis Hamilton's habit of sending Ferrari detailed technical "dossiers" - something the Italian says is counter-productive and historically meaningless.

Hamilton's approach to offering engineering ideas is understood to have irritated parts of the proud Maranello based team during the difficult 2025 season.

Speaking on Sky Italia's Race Anatomy, Arrivabene said he had seen this behaviour before. Referring to Sebastian Vettel's era, he said: "Vettel sent out such dossiers. He wrote, talked, shared everything.

"But it was almost useless. I don't want to say anything bad about Sebastian, but everyone has to mind their own business. A driver's job isn't just to drive, but also to help develop the car. But if he starts playing engineer, that's it... it's time to turn off the lights."

Arrivabene stressed that drivers - including multiple world champions - simply lack the technical depth to meaningfully shape factory development.

"The drivers arrive, work for two or three days in the simulator, and get a general idea of how the car is being developed. But the devil is in the details," said the former Ferrari team boss.

"A Formula 1 car has over 50,000 components that interact with each other according to complex logic. Therefore, everyone must play their part. When the car is on track, the driver must provide relevant feedback so the engineers can improve the car, especially if it has potential."

The comments land at an awkward moment for Ferrari, as Hamilton's relationship with the Scuderia has obviously strained during a season full of frustration, miscommunication, and mounting retirement rumours.

Adding to the picture, Italian reports claim part of Arthur Leclerc's FP1 program in Abu Dhabi last Friday involved testing a revised steering wheel concept promoted internally by Hamilton.

He is said to dislike the overly complex, button-heavy layout and rotary logic inherited from the Vettel era and still present on the current Ferrari wheel.

Has Lulu somehow spent four hidden years at an engineering university? Does he have a "P.Eng" classification in a discipline relevant to building F1 cars?

    I didn't think so.

As described, the drivers' job is to provide succinct and detailed feedback on how the car is performing (one of the best for this was Niki Lauda). Anything more than that, is simply arrogance.

Conversely a university education is no guarantee of competence or natural talent and a lifetimes experience ‘on the track’ can be worth a hundred degrees. Likewise ignoring or belittling the drivers input is also arrogance and with Ferraris performance over the last 18 years a bit rich.
A car is useless if the driver can’t drive it. I suspect that the only reason Charles could get more out of it was the many years experience in the red cars.

The car was able last year with the drivers to achieve 5 wins and 22 podiums Charles 13 and Carlos 9, so if i was one of the workers building the Ferrari car , id sorta think "we can build a half decent car" ok this year isnt as good but , Charles still got 7 podiums and without any development, so is a bad Car......obviously not,Remember all the media Hamilton to win his 8th , Im here to win blah blah, she could have played it down but no , allowing the media to portray her as Ferraris saviour and only hope, that was a very foolish approach displaying less respect and more arrogance, had signing Lulu been Freds sole decision, do you honestly think hed have signed her...!

        • Blo

In terms of winning world championships, the object of the game, the car is unpredictable crap. Ferrari are living on their past, long past.

        • CanadianEh

The Mercedes chassis hit the sweet-spot and for years Lulu was fortunate enough to orchestrate his way to the top and the car did it's magic and he won 7 WDC.

Max has said on a number of occassions, that winning is all about the car. I believe that it is more than that, but essentially, he's correct.

So, if the two Ferrari's being driven by Chuck and Lulu are 'identical' , then clearly there is a delta between the drivers. As they say in aviation, attitude determines altitude.

Another saying may be appropriate here - take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.

Guy takes selfie in bathroom. Holds mirror and noticed ink on back suddenly reversed! backwards!
And now it all made sense.
Guys Guys you gotta read this. It's amazing! I petted a giraffe read three books but this is amazingly amazing! My path to number 8 is clearly laid out. I'll bring Ferrari along for the ride.

      • shroppyfly

If you mean Miss Lucy, gang up on? , its not the playground as much as some people stamp there feet and say it just not fair any more

        • Blo

Is that so, not that some people are obsessed then. Well that’s a relief.

        • Ian

so did people stamp their feet hands on hips and say no?
