Inside Ferrari: Capelli's Thoughts on Hamilton's Future Race Engineer

Former Formula 1 driver Ivan Capelli has questioned why Lewis Hamilton's race engineer at Ferrari has yet to be formally announced, describing the situation as unusual.
Speaking to Sky Italia, Capelli said Ferrari appeared well placed competitively for 2026, but suggested the lack of clarity around the seven time world champion's pitwall structure was notable.
"I believe Ferrari is competitive. I expect them to compete with the best," Capelli said.
"I think Lewis is still willing to take risks. He had a bad year, and he knows it. He's hungry for a comeback. I don't imagine he'll end his career badly.
"However, I find it odd that his race engineer, replacing Riccardo Adami, hasn't been named yet. It might be a matter of time, but some things need to be announced in advance."
Hamilton's early running in Barcelona this week has been overseen on a temporary basis by Brian Bozzi, who normally works with Charles Leclerc, as Ferrari continues to finalise its long-term structure.
After completing his first meaningful laps in the 2026 car in wet conditions on Tuesday, Hamilton struck a cautious but positive tone.
"We didn't have any major problems, and that gives us a good base to continue learning and building on over the next two days," Hamilton said.
"I don't want to say too much yet, because it's difficult to know. I've only driven in the rain, and there's much less downforce than last year," he added.
Ferrari has yet to confirm when Hamilton's permanent race engineer will be named.

Hmm... I think Shroppy should be his engineer. He has a deep understanding of Sir Lewis and his antagonism will keep his charge suitably motivated!
I don't imagine she'll end her career badly , I agree it wont badly, more like disastrously, those calling for Hannah to retire after 21 and others were saying, yes but imagine what she can achieve is she stays, Well now we know.....!
I could never be her race engineer , I only drink coffee
If stroppy speaks as she writes and that’s only on coffee I am forced to agree she could never be his race engineer.😳
The reference was to remind people about LouLou bells desperate radio message to Adami suggesting to a coffee drinking Italian (team) that they may want a cup of Tea, i mean how ignorant can you get..!
Judging by your efforts,a lot more I imagine. I am sure you of all people should appreciate his sarcasm.
Oh I do , I do , unfortunately the extra passionate, highly strung Italians Dont, in fact her sarcasms better than her driving so shes good at something at least
I enjoyed the reference to the cup of tea, even if it would be unlikely that you would tarry in responding to our beknighted driver.
High praise indeed for Sir Lewis, given his seven ( really eight) world championships. I have witnessed Italian expertise in ignorance and rudeness on a number of occasions.
Is it possible that Ferrari are waiting for a replacements contract or gardening leave to expire? Or maybe no one wants the job for one year.
Lets be honest it looks bad whether Adami wanted out , or Ferrari or Sharon complained to hr , at this stage of the 26 season, they should be meetings regular with race engineer, but Hang on this is Sharon from Stevenage, i predict a 7th place finish in the WDC for her
Shroppy drinks and smokes and goes to bed with other blokes
