Lotus drivers Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado are in a positive frame of mind ahead of Formula One’s return in Belgium this weekend. The team have had a dismal season so far but the four week summer break seems to have restored some hope in the Enstone team, who believe they can challenge for points this weekend.
Romain Grosjean, Lotus E22 Renault
Lotus, who were in contention for the drivers’ championship last year, have only scored eight points this season with Grosjean coming eighth twice. Yet the Frenchman believes that the team can improve as F1 heads to the notoriously difficult Spa circuit.
He said, “For Spa I am hoping that there will be some improvements so we can show the potential which has been seen on a few occasions, such as Barcelona. We have to reverse the problems that have held us back and I believe that if we get that then we can post more points on the board.”
Grosjean’s team-mate, Pastor Maldonado, is already looking ahead to the 2015 season and says that a promising end to this year could make a big difference to their form next year. “We have to believe that we can get some points on the board and complete the season strongly. That way it will give us some good momentum to start afresh in 2015 with a whole new exciting package.”
Pastor Maldonado, Lotus E22 Renault
Maldonado must be one of the most frustrated drivers on the grid. Last season he was struggling towards the back with Williams and left to join Lotus in order to compete for points and wins. However, a reversal has happened as Lotus struggle and Williams continue to enjoy their best season in years.
The team have been busy over the summer and have some aerodynamic modifications, which should produce more downforce. They will also bring front and rear wing updates.
