2010 Germany F1 Grand Prix Race Report & Results

Event: German Grand Prix
Track: Hockenheimring
Weather: dry, warm, sunny
Fernando ALONSO won his 23rd F1 World Championship race at the 2010 Germany F1 GP, a Ferrari 1-2 at Hockenheim delivered by controversial team orders. The Ferrari driver started second and won by 4.196 seconds from teammate Felipe Massa, who was ordered to concede the lead on lap 49. It was Ferraris 213th F1 win.
Vettel pole by 0.002, Ferrari on the front row
Hockenheim on 25 July 2010 saw Vettel take pole by the narrowest margin of the season, a 1:13.791 lap 0.002 seconds clear of Alonso. Massa qualified third for Ferrari, Webber fourth for Red Bull. Ferraris upgrade package had delivered a decisive step forward.
Race day: "Fernando is faster than you"
Massa led into the first corner as Vettel was slow away. Alonso hunted the pair down and after the pit stops Massa led his teammate. On lap 49 Ferrari engineer Rob Smedley delivered one of the most notorious radio calls in F1 history: "Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?" Massa yielded on the run to the hairpin at Turn 6, Alonso took the lead and stayed there to the flag. Vettel third for Red Bull, Hamilton fourth for McLaren, Button fifth, Webber sixth. Vettel set the fastest lap on lap 67 at 1:15.824. Ferrari were fined $100,000 by the stewards for a breach of the team-orders ban (Sporting Regulations Article 39.1), though the results stood.
Championship: Hamilton 157, Button 143, Webber 136
Alonso, on 141, moved back into the title fight after a difficult mid-season; Massa remained trapped in the number-two role. Hungary in a week would be next.
