Lewis HAMILTON won his 8th F1 World Championship race at the 2008 German F1 GP, delivering back-to-back victories at Silverstone and Hockenheim to establish himself as championship favourite. The McLaren driver started from pole and won at Hockenheim by 5.586 seconds from Nelsinho Piquet. It was the 160th win for the McLaren F1 team and Hamiltons 4th win of the season.

Hockenheim on 20 July 2008 opened with Lewis Hamilton taking pole with a 1:15.666 lap for McLaren, Massa second for Ferrari, Kovalainen third for McLaren, Trulli fourth for Toyota. McLaren were on top of the sport again.
Race day: Hamilton controls despite pit-stop trouble
Hamilton led 54 of the 67 laps at Hockenheim. A poorly-timed pit stop for a Timo Glock accident briefly cost him track position but he recovered by lap 60 to lead to the flag. He won by 5.586 seconds from Nelsinho Piquet, whose second place was Renaults best result of the season to that point. Massa third for Ferrari, Heidfeld fourth for BMW Sauber, Kovalainen fifth for McLaren, Raikkonen sixth for Ferrari. Heidfeld set the fastest lap on lap 52 with a 1:15.987.
Championship: Hamilton 58, Massa 54, Raikkonen 51, Kubica 48
Hamilton back at the top of the championship with 58 points, Massa 54, Raikkonen 51. Hungary in a week would be next.
