2010 Canada F1 Grand Prix Race Report & Results

Event: Canadian Grand Prix
Track: Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
Weather: dry, warm, sunny
Lewis HAMILTON won his 13th F1 World Championship race at the 2010 Canada F1 GP, a second consecutive win to take the championship lead. The McLaren driver started from pole and won at Montreals Ile Notre-Dame by 2.254 seconds from teammate Jenson Button for a second McLaren 1-2 in as many rounds. It was McLarens 164th F1 win.
Hamilton pole, tyre degradation the story
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on 13 June 2010 hosted F1s return to Canada after a one-year hiatus. Lewis Hamilton took pole with a 1:15.105 lap, Webber second for Red Bull, Vettel third, Alonso fourth. The freshly re-laid surface produced dramatic tyre degradation that would make the race a compound-and-strategy puzzle.
Race day: Hamiltons two-stop wins on rubber wear
Hamilton and Button managed the McLarens rubber best on the abrasive surface, both running a two-stop to Vettels and Webbers three. Hamilton controlled the run home over 70 laps, Button held on for second, Alonso third for Ferrari, Vettel fourth, Webber fifth, Rosberg sixth for Mercedes GP, Kubica seventh. Kubica set the fastest lap on lap 67 at 1:16.972 for Renault. Schumacher, running strongly, was pushed off the road by Barrichello and dropped down the order.
Championship: Hamilton 109, Button 106, Webber 103
Hamilton now led, McLaren 1-2 in the standings; four drivers within 6 points. Europe at Valencia in a fortnight would be next.
