2009 Bahrain F1 Grand Prix Race Report & Results

Jenson BUTTON won his 4th F1 World Championship race at the 2009 Bahrain F1 GP, his third win in four rounds for the Brawn GP team. The Brawn GP driver started from 4th on the grid and won at the Bahrain International Circuit by 7.187 seconds from Sebastian Vettel. It was Brawn GPs 3rd F1 win.

Toyota surprise pole and front-row lockout

The Bahrain International Circuit on 26 April 2009 opened with a Toyota front-row lockout. Jarno Trulli took pole with a 1:33.431 lap, Glock second in the sister Toyota. Vettel third for Red Bull, Button fourth for Brawn GP. Toyotas dominant qualifying pace was a surprise.

Race day: Button races through to victory

Glock led the opening 10 laps but Buttons Brawn GP had superior race pace on Bahrains abrasive surface. Button took the lead on lap 22 and controlled the race from lap 41 to the flag. He won by 7.187 seconds from Vettel for Red Bull. Trulli third for Toyota, Hamilton fourth for McLaren (McLarens best result of the season to date), Barrichello fifth for Brawn GP, Raikkonen sixth for Ferrari. Trulli set the fastest lap on lap 10 with a 1:34.556.

Championship: Button 31, Vettel 18, Barrichello 19

Button ran away with the championship lead. Spain in a fortnight would be next.
