Event: Turkey Grand Prix
Track: Istanbul Park

Weather: dry, hot, sunny

Jenson BUTTON won his 7th F1 World Championship race at the 2009 Turkey F1 GP, a sixth win in seven rounds for Brawn GP. The Brawn GP driver started second and passed Sebastian Vettel on lap 1 to win at Istanbul Park by 6.714 seconds from Mark Webber. It was Brawn GPs 6th F1 win of the season and Buttons 6th of 2009.

Vettel pole, Button primes his charge

Sebastian Vettel took pole for Red Bull with a 1:28.316 lap on 6 June 2009 at Istanbul Park. Button qualified second by just 0.105 seconds, Barrichello third for Brawn GP, Webber fourth. The story was tyre wear: on the abrasive Turkish surface strategy would matter as much as raw pace.

Race day: Button past Vettel at Turn 10

Button seized the initiative on the opening lap, sweeping past Vettel at the long left of Turn 10 to lead into lap 2. From there he controlled proceedings, managing the rears through the demanding right-handers and pulling clear. Vettel dropped behind Webber during the stops, the Red Bull pair covering podium places. Trulli fourth for Toyota, Rosberg fifth for Williams. Button posted the fastest lap on lap 40 at 1:27.579.

Championship: Button 61, Barrichello 41

Six wins in seven rounds pushed Buttons title lead to 20 points over Barrichello. Britain in a fortnight would be next.
