Haas VF-23 Specs & Facts
Haas VF-23: Consistency in the Midfield
The Haas VF-23 was the American team's 2023 challenger, built on the foundations of the competitive VF-22 and representing a continued push to establish Haas as a reliable midfield operator under the ground-effect regulations. A new driver pairing of Nico Hulkenberg, returning to Formula 1 after a two-year absence, and Kevin Magnussen gave the team one of the most experienced pairings on the grid. Ferrari power units continued, with the updated 2023-specification PU offering improved performance and reliability.
Hulkenberg Finds a Home
Nico Hulkenberg's return to Formula 1 with Haas was one of the more heartwarming stories of the 2023 season. The German driver, who had spent 2021 and 2022 as a reserve driver despite enormous talent and a reputation as one of the sport's best qualifying performers, immediately proved his worth. Hulkenberg outqualified many of his more fancied rivals on a regular basis and delivered consistently in races, often finding himself in the points and demonstrating that his ability had not diminished during his time on the sidelines.
Kevin Magnussen had a more difficult 2023 by comparison, but the pairing gave Haas good championship data and allowed the team to understand the development direction needed for subsequent seasons. Haas finished ninth in the 2023 Constructors' Championship, a respectable result for a team operating with relatively modest resources compared to the sport's top outfits.
