Hamilton ill on first day

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has been taken ill on the first day of the second pre-season test in Barcelona, this morning.

Hamilton completed 11 laps earlier on, but it understood that he was suffering from a fever during the morning and it has been deemed that he is too ill to continue.

The defending world champion saw his place taken by German Pascal Wehrlein for the rest of the day, as he rested in the team’s motor home.

Wehrlein  had been driving for Force India until lunchtime, and completed ten laps for the team. He has been replaced by Mexican Sergio Pérez.

It is hoped that Hamilton will be fine to return to the track on Saturday, on day three of the four day event.
