Belgian GP heading for another Spa sell-out
Just days after Silverstone's record-breaking crowds, Spa-Francorchamps is closing in on a sell-out of its own, with barely a handful of Belgian GP tickets left.
Formula 1's next stop at Spa-Francorchamps is on course for another sell-out, with only a handful of tickets still available for next week's Belgian GP.
Local promoter Vanessa Maes says just 4,000 to 5,000 tickets remain, with daily attendance expected to reach the circuit's capacity of 115,000 spectators.
"In agreement with the authorities, we can accommodate 115,000 spectators," she said. "We are gradually increasing the maximum number in order to ensure greater comfort for the public."
The figures come just days after Silverstone attracted a record Friday crowd of more than 150,000 fans. Overall, the British GP weekend attracted over 564,000 across four days - the biggest Formula 1 event ever held.
Maes, however, said direct comparisons between the two venues are misleading.
"It's pointless to compare us to Silverstone, a World War II airfield," she said.
"It's a flat, open site covering thousands of hectares. At Francorchamps, the tarmac runs from one hill to another.
"Many of the surrounding areas are wooded. This is actually part of the charm of our national circuit."
The Belgian GP is contracted to remain on the Formula 1 calendar under a rotation agreement that will see Spa host races in 2027, 2029 and 2031, alternating with Barcelona in 2028, 2030 and 2032.
