Haas started their Formula 1 adventure in 2014 and drove their first season in 2016. It's the first team from the United States since Penske back in the Seventies. The team is based in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
The team was founded by Gene Haas who is the owner of the Haas Automation company. Haas Automation is the largest CNC machine tool builder in North America.
The team is working closely with Ferrari. A lot of technology that's being used is coming from the Maranello-based company. They also use a Ferrari power unit.
The first race they ever drove in Formula 1 was a fabulous one. The first race was the 2016 Australian F1 Grand Prix. Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez were the drivers that season. You could see by the qualifying results that they had to learn a lot about this game. Both drivers started from 19th and 20th place on the grid.

At the start, Esteban had some bad luck. Fernando Alonso who was driving for McLaren-Honda collided with the back of his car. Romain Grosjean was doing very well with the car in this first race and finished 6th to score the team's first points on their debut.
The Haas team scored 29 points during their debut F1 season. Unfortunately Mexican driver Gutierrez didn't score. All points were scored by Frenchman Grosjean. He scored points in Australia, Bahrain, Russia, Austria, and the US.
The team finished the season in 8th place in the constructors' championship. Which was an astonishing result when you look at the teams that finished behind them, like Renault and Sauber who had a massive history in F1.

The 2017 season didn't start out as a fairy tale as the 2016 season did. Instead of a 6th place finish by Romain Grosjean, both cars had to retire in the first race of the season. French driver Grosjean had to retire because of a water leak and Danish driver Kevin Magnussen, who replaced 2016 driver Esteban Gutierrez, had a suspension failure.
The VF-17 car livery also changed during the season from dark grey to light grey. The Haas VF-17 car retired eight times during the 2017 F1 championship.
The team also could not beat their best place finish of 2016. In just the second race of the 2016 F1 championship, Grosjean finished 5th. Their best classification in 2017 was 6th in Austria on the Red Bull Ring.
Overall they finished in 8th place in the 2017 F1 constructors championship, just like they did in 2016. The big difference is that they scored 18 more points. The Haas F1 team scored 29 points in their rookie season and 47 in 2017. In 2016 Haas scored five top 10 classifications and 13 in 2017. Kevin Magnussen did a good job by scoring points in five races, which was not the case with Esteban Gutierrez in 2016.
The 2018 F1 season saw Haas looking for a strong result at the first race, in Australia, but both cars retired from the race with loose wheels after their pit stops. They were running fourth and fifth at the time.

However, the 2018 season was Haas' strongest to date in Formula 1, with Grosjean and Magnussen scoring 93 points for the team and placing Haas in fifth place in the World Constructors' Championship. Haas recorded their best result in F1 in the 2018 Austrian grand prix, finishing fourth and fifth.
The 2019 Formula 1 season saw Haas struggling, compared to the previous year. With the same lineup of drivers, Haas could only manage seven Top-10 finishes throughout the year and finished ninth in the WCC with 28 points.
While Haas' 2019 season was its worst at the time, things were about to get even worse, as the team struggled mightily in 2020, with Grosjean and Magnussen scoring just three points in the season.
On 22 October 2020, it was announced that both Grosjean and Magnussen were leaving Haas at the end of that season. Later, 2020 F2 champion Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin were announced as the team's drivers for 2021.

Grosjean's career with the team ended prematurely when he crashed in the first lap of the 2020 Bahrain grand prix and escaped death miraculously, after his car caught fire and he had to fight to get out of it just in time, with only burns to his hands.
Grosjean was replaced by Pietro Fittipaldi for the final two races of 2020.
The 2021 season is Haas' only scoreless season in Formula 1 so far, as the team looked to prepare for the start of F1's new aerodynamic era in 2022.
Before the 2022 F1 season, Haas announced that Russian driver Nikita Mazepin was leaving the team in response to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Kevin Magnussen rejoined the team ahead of the 2022 season and he had an immediate impact, scoring points in three of the first four races, including a brilliant fifth place in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.

Ultimately, Haas finished eighth in the 2022 World Constructors' Championship due to a solid first half, especially a great middle part of the season at Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring, scoring with their two drivers in both events and in Austria's Sprint event.
Haas' 37 points in 2022 are the biggest tally for the team since the 2018 campaign and finishing eighth in the WCC is the highest finish for the team since finishing fifth in 2018.
In the middle of November 2022, Haas announced that Mick Schumacher wasn't going to continue with the team after the two seasons from the German driver saw him score points twice.
On 17 November 2022, Haas announced Nico Hulkenberg as Schumacher's replacement. The veteran driver returns as a full-time racer since 2019, although he had competed in two races in 2020 and 2022, respectively, after stepping in for drivers who weren't available due to Covid-19 cases (with Racing Point/Aston Martin).
Haas finished last in the 2023 F1 championship, scoring only 12 points (nine from Hulkenberg and three from Magnussen).
Ahead of the 2024 F1 season, the team presented the new livery for its car (VF-24) on 2 February 2024.
