In 2020, he made his debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, he had a solid rookie season, finishing 7th overall in the drivers' standings, and achieve 2 podium finishes. The following year he signed with the Prema Racing team, he won one of the races in the opening round of the championship, and went on to win the championship in 2021.
His success in F2 led to him being signed by the Renault F1 Team as a development driver for the 2022 season, making him the youngest Australian to ever be signed to an F1 team.
Piastri's performances have caught the attention of the F1 world, and he is considered one of the rising stars in motorsports, with many experts predicting that he has a bright future ahead in the sport.
On 2 September 2022, McLaren announced Australian Oscar Piastri as their driver for 2023. The Australian, the 2021 F2 championship, and McLaren had to go through a contract dispute with Alpine which was settled by Formula 1's Contract Recognition Board (CRB).
Alpine had announced Piastri as its 2023 driver alongside Esteban Ocon in 2023. However, Piastri himself posted a tweet in which he denied that information. Ultimately, McLaren took Piastri off Alpine's hands and the Australian joined the Woking team.
The move to McLaren for the 2023 F1 season could mark a significant step up for Piastri, as the team is one of the most successful and iconic in the history of Formula 1. The team has a rich racing heritage and has been a perennial championship contender for many years. Of course, McLaren's current situation isn't the greatest in team history, but there's definitely room to improve and it could be a great move for the Australian racer.

Rough start to his F1 career, but two podiums and a Sprint win showed his speed
Piastri's Formula 1 career started with a mechanical DNF in the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix and a 15th-place finish in the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix (although he reached Q3 in the second event, out-qualifying his teammate).
However, red flags, incidents, and a bit of luck helped Piastri score his first career points in the 2023 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, where he was born.
Piastri finished eighth in the race and helped McLaren end its scoreless run in 2023, with his teammate Lando Norris finishing sixth.
In the 2023 British Grand Prix, Piastri qualified third, right behind his teammate, and then drove a tremendous race to finish a career-high fourth. In the early stage of the race, Piastri looked on pace to his first F1 podium, but the result was still great for the Australian racer.

That was his third point-scoring finish of his F1 career, having previously finished 10th in the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix.
In the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, Piastri finished the race in fifth place after qualifying fourth. At this point, McLaren had definitely become the second-best car on the field, with Piastri and especially Lando Norris fighting for podiums consistently.
The Australian fought for the win in the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Race, but ultimately finished second. On Sunday, however, Piastri retired from the race, and bad results followed (ninth in Zandvoort, 12th in Italy after a collision with Lewis Hamilton, and seventh in Singapore).
On 24 September 2023, Piastri scored his first career podium with a solid P3 in the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix, after qualifying in second place and starting on the front row for the first time in his F1 career.
His first podium in Japan preceded a win in the Sprint Race in Qatar, and a career-best finish of P2 in the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, rounding out an incredible weekend for the F1 rookie.

After those two consecutive podiums, Piastri had a rough end to the season, with a sixth place in the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix being his best result in the final five races of the year (he went scoreless in two of those).
Ultimately, Piastri's rookie season finished with him in ninth place with 97 points, a couple of podiums, a win in a Sprint Race, and two Fastest Laps (Monza and Las Vegas).
F1 Grand Prix-winner
The 2024 Formula 1 season saw Piastri's rise to an elite driver in the series. The Australian began the season scoring points consistently but with some tricky performances. Then, he achieved his first podium of the year with second place at Monaco and went on to win the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix for his maiden victory.
Piastri had some stellar performances midway through the season and was second in Belgium and Italy before winning the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix after a thrilling battle with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Piastri was fourth among drivers in the 2024 campaign and helped McLaren secure their first World Constructors' Championship since 1998. The Australian scored 292 points thanks to two wins and eight podiums overall.
