In Formula 1, a Grand Chelem (or Grand Slam) happens when a driver takes pole position, sets the fastest lap, wins the race and leads every single lap from start to finish. It is the most dominant weekend a driver can have.

Since the first World Championship race in 1950, only 27 drivers have achieved this feat. Some did it once. A few did it multiple times, but three drivers stand above the rest.

Here are the top three.

1. Jim Clark - 8 Grand Chelems

A two-time F1 champion, Jim Clark is the king of the perfect weekend. The Scotsman achieved eight Grand Chelems during his career, more than any other driver in F1 history.

His first came at the 1962 British Grand Prix at Aintree, driving a Lotus 25 with Climax power on Dunlop tyres. The 1963 season was his best, with three Grand Chelems in the Netherlands, France, and Mexico.

He added one more in 1964 at the British Grand Prix, this time at Brands Hatch. Clark's final three Grand Chelems all came in 1965, in South Africa, France, and Germany.

Clark's ability to lead every lap was unmatched. He remains the only driver to achieve eight perfect weekends.

2. Lewis Hamilton - 6 Grand Chelems

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton sits second on the list with six Grand Chelems. His first came at the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix, driving the Mercedes W05. He followed up with another at Monza in 2015, where he also dominated every practice session and every Qualifying segment.

The 2017 season was special for Hamilton. He recorded three Grand Chelems that year alone: in China, Canada, and Britain. His sixth and most recent came at the 2019 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton's six perfect weekends place him joint-second with Max Verstappen.

3. Max Verstappen - 6 Grand Chelems

Max Verstappen's first Grand Slam came at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix, driving the Honda-powered Red Bull RB16B.

Verstappen then dominated the 2022 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. The 2023 season saw him add two more: in Spain and Qatar. The four-time champion followed up with another at the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix and his sixth at the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

The Full Picture

Alberto Ascari and Michael Schumacher follow with five apiece, while Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Sebastian Vettel all have four.

A Grand Chelem requires everything to go right: qualifying pace, race pace, reliability, and no safety cars or pit stop strategies that disrupt the lead. That is why only 27 drivers have done it in 76 years of Formula 1.

Clark remains the benchmark. But Hamilton and Verstappen are still racing.
