In 2024 these components were Restricted-Number Components. Because the championship contained 24 races, each driver was permitted five sets. Each additional set carried a five-place grid penalty.

Interestingly, when a driver introduced an additional gearbox case and cassette and an additional driveline set at the same time, the FIA regulations stated that the two gearbox penalties were not added together.

Is GDC still limited in F1?

No. From 2026, this seasonal gearbox allocation has been removed. The current FIA Sporting Regulations restrict the use of specified power unit components, but no longer impose the previous seasonal allocation for gearbox driveline components.
