AlphaTauri AT01 (2020)

A New Name, an Immediate Legend

The AlphaTauri AT01 was the first car to carry the Faenza team's new name after it rebranded from Toro Rosso ahead of the 2020 season. Designed to the same tight budget constraints as its predecessors and operating as Red Bull's junior outfit, the AT01 was not expected to challenge regularly for points. What unfolded over the course of the year, and particularly on one unforgettable afternoon in northern Italy, exceeded every expectation and wrote one of the most extraordinary chapters in the team's history.

Gasly's Monza Miracle

The Italian grand prix at Monza produced a result that few who witnessed it will ever forget. With the dominant Mercedes cars eliminated or penalised, Pierre Gasly found himself in a race situation that required flawless judgment, shrewd pit strategy, and nerves of absolute steel. He delivered on every count. Crossing the finish line 0.4 seconds ahead of Carlos Sainz, Gasly became the first AlphaTauri driver, and only the second Faenza driver since 2008, to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix. The emotion on the radio, the tears in Faenza, and Gasly's sheer disbelief combined into one of the sport's most uplifting moments of the decade. For a driver who had been demoted from Red Bull just twelve months earlier, it was a remarkable vindication.

Kvyat's Contribution and a Strong Team Season

Daniil Kvyat brought valuable experience to the AT01 lineup, scoring points on several occasions and driving with the consistency that had defined his return to the team. The 2020 campaign was AlphaTauri's strongest since the Toro Rosso days, the Monza win aside, and demonstrated that the team under Franz Tost was capable of punching above its weight when the conditions aligned. The AT01 proved particularly effective on low-downforce circuits where its aerodynamic efficiency could be exploited over the full race distance.
