Overview
The Alpine A522 is BWT Alpine F1 Team’s Formula 1 challenger for the 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, representing the team’s entry into the new era of Formula 1 regulations.
Designed and built across Alpine’s Enstone (UK) and Viry-Châtillon (France) facilities, the A522 marks a significant evolution in chassis and power unit integration under the guidance of Chief Technical Officer Pat Fry, Technical Director Matt Harman, and Executive Director Bruno Famin.
The car features a completely reworked aerodynamic concept designed to meet the 2022 regulations, prioritising closer racing, reduced wake turbulence, and higher efficiency. The A522 also introduces the Renault E-Tech RE22 hybrid power unit, a brand-new design homologated through 2025.
The A522 was driven by Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon, with Oscar Piastri serving as reserve driver.
