AVUS (Automobil-Verkehrs- und Übungs-Straße), built in 1921 in the Grunewald forest of Berlin, Germany, was a 19th-century-conceived dual-carriageway turned race circuit — essentially two long straights connected by a steeply banked north curve and a hairpin. The 8.300 km configuration hosted its only Formula 1 World Championship round in 1959, won by Tony Brooks for Ferrari. The Nordkurve banking was demolished in the 1960s.
