GBX is short for gearbox. In F1 component usage tables, GBX usually refers specifically to the gearbox case and cassette. The FIA called this component group GBX C&C,意思 Gearbox Case and Cassette.

The gearbox is part of an F1 car's transmission and transfers power from the power unit to the rear wheels. The gearbox case houses the transmission components, while the cassette contains much of the internal gear mechanism.

What does GBX mean in F1 component tables?

On F1-Fansite.com, GBX shows how many gearbox case and cassette units a driver has used during a F1 season.

Under the regulations used in 2024, gearbox components were classed as Restricted-Number Components (RNCs). With 24 races on the calendar, each driver was allowed to use five gearbox cases and cassettes. Using an additional unit resulted in a five-place grid penalty. (api.fia.com)

是 F1 gearbox changes still limited?

Not from the 2026 F1 season. The current 2026 FIA Sporting Regulations no longer include gearbox components in the seasonal restricted-component allocation. Article B8 now contains car and power unit limitations, but no equivalent seasonal GBX limit. (fia.com)

This means a gearbox change in 2026 does not automatically trigger a grid penalty simply because a driver has exceeded a seasonal GBX allocation.
