Unveiled on 18 February 2025 at a launch event at London's iconic O2 Arena, the SF-25 represented Ferrari's most ambitious technical evolution since the introduction of the ground-effect regulations in 2022. The car was developed under new chassis Technical Director Loïc Serra, who arrived from Mercedes and promised a fundamentally rethought machine, famously stating that 99% of the car had been changed.
The defining story of the 2025 season was the arrival of Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time World Champion, who joined the Scuderia after more than a decade at Mercedes. Partnered with Charles Leclerc, the duo formed one of the most celebrated driver lineups in Ferrari's long history. Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur described the combination as a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and the SF-25 launch at the O2 Arena drew enormous global attention.
The most significant technical change on the SF-25 was the adoption of a pull-rod front suspension, replacing the pushrod system used on the SF-24. This switch fundamentally altered the airflow around the front of the car and allowed Ferrari's aerodynamicists to extract additional performance from the floor and diffuser. The car also featured a revised sidepod design, updated cooling architecture, and a lower centre of gravity, the result of an intensive development programme throughout the winter.
The 2025 season was the final year under the regulations introduced in 2022, with a sweeping technical reset due for 2026. As teams extracted the maximum from four years of development, performance converged sharply across the field. Ferrari entered the year as one of the genuine championship contenders, building on the momentum of their 2024 campaign. Leclerc and Hamilton fought at the sharp end throughout the season, giving the SF-25 a truly competitive record on track.
Following a 200 km shakedown at Fiorano, the SF-25 headed to the Bahrain International Circuit for the official pre-season test before the season opener in Australia on 16 March 2025. The SF-25 proved to be a genuine step forward and confirmed that Ferrari had learned from the lessons of the previous campaign, delivering a car that Leclerc and Hamilton could trust from the very first race.
