Christian Horner insists Red Bull are still behind the game in terms of engine power, but has sent a warning to Mercedes telling them the gap will be bridged.
Red Bull and engine supplier Renault have endured a tough, and public, relationship in the last three seasons – with the Austrian team actively looking to change supplier in order to secure a better engine.
But, despite the deficit to Mercedes and Ferrari still existing, Horner remains positive about the future and says they know where improvements need to be made.
"Renault have made some great steps and that there are more in the pipeline," he said.
"There's definitely more to come and it's about how they work in harmony with the chassis.
"We know that we're 35kw behind - that's what the Renault guys tell us.
"We know the plans they have in place to close that gap down."
