Marcus Ericsson has challenged his Sauber team to fight for points throughout the season at the launch of the team’s new car.
The Swiss team fell away from the battle at the end of last season as they struggled to keep up with the development of their rivals.
However, Ericsson praised the technical team for improving this year’s car and has renewed hope ahead of the new campaign.
"The battle for positions is getting fiercer,” he said.
"But I'm convinced that, with the new car, we're going to take a step forward so that we can finish in the points with greater consistency and under our own steam.
"Last year we managed a good start. In the second half of the season it was a harder struggle for us to score points.
"This season I'd like to see us being in contention for points and fighting on a level where speed is decisive."
