Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz says that he hopes that he receives an engine penalty at a track which isn’t suited to his car.
The Spaniard is currently on his third engine of the season, while his team-mate Max Verstappen became the first driver of the season to be hit with a 10-place penalty for using his fifth of the campaign.
Verstappen was lucky as Canada is a circuit where Toro Rosso’s Renault engine struggles in comparison to its rivals, and Sainz wants to have the same luck when he has to take a penalty.
He told AUTOSPORT: "It's better not to think about it. With Max, it was great because Canada was a less favourable track for us, so to take a grid penalty there was a logical thing.
"I just hope when I have to take them at some stage they will be on tracks not beneficial for us.
"I'm guessing somewhere like Russia would be good to take a penalty, with so many long straights. At power-limited tracks we should take a penalty."
