Fernando Alonso has said that he believes Ferrari will be the favourites to win at the start of the 2015 season, despite struggling in 2014.
The Spaniard left Ferrari in the winter after five disappointing years with the team to re-join McLaren after the Italian team had their first winless year since 1993.
Despite seemingly being in turmoil, Alonso says that the financial weight of the team should see them compete at the front next year.
He told reporters: “From the outside now it will be difficult to judge how Ferrari is doing, but they have the talented people, they have the resources, they have the motivation from everybody in the team, so in time they will win.
“I think what they have missed these five years is just some more performance in the car, and technical resources per se."
He added: The budget they have, next year they will be favourites, because every season the favourites at the start will be Ferrari.”
Alonso won 11 races for Ferrari and finished second in the world championship on three occasions.
