McLaren’s season has finally “really started”, according to Honda’s motorsport chief Yasuhisa Arai.
The team scored their first double-points of the season in Hungary as Fernando Alonso finished fifth, while Jenson Button came ninth.
The team have had a miserable campaign so far as they have been blighted by engine issues, with both reliability and performance a real concern.
However, Arai insists that the team have turned a corner.
He told AUTOSPORT: “We've got two cars in the points for the first time this season, so our season has now really started. A bigger force has helped us. We're very, very lucky."
"On Saturday I was very disappointed, but on Sunday there was a change and we had a very good situation. Fernando is a fantastic, great driver. The day was perfect.
"Over the weekend the engine data was fine, although we had a small issue on Saturday, but now perfect."
