[10](#comments) Former Formula 1 driver [Ivan Capelli](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-drivers/ivan-capelli-information-statistics/) has questioned why [Lewis Hamilton's](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-drivers/lewis-hamilton/) race engineer at Ferrari has yet to be formally announced, describing the situation as unusual. Speaking to [Sky Italia](https://www.sky.it/), Capelli said Ferrari appeared well placed competitively for 2026, but suggested the lack of clarity around the seven time world champion's pitwall structure was notable. "I believe [Ferrari](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/ferrari-f1-information-statistics/) is competitive. I expect them to compete with the best," Capelli said. "I think Lewis is still willing to take risks. He had a bad year, and he knows it. He's hungry for a comeback. I don't imagine he'll end his career badly. "However, I find it odd that his race engineer, replacing Riccardo Adami, hasn't been named yet. It might be a matter of time, but some things need to be announced in advance." Hamilton's early running in [Barcelona](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-circuits/catalunya-circuit/) this week has been overseen on a temporary basis by Brian Bozzi, who normally works with [Charles Leclerc](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-drivers/charles-leclerc-information-statistics/), as Ferrari continues to finalise its long-term structure. After completing his first meaningful laps in the 2026 car in wet conditions on Tuesday, Hamilton struck a cautious but positive tone. "We didn't have any major problems, and that gives us a good base to continue learning and building on over the next two days," Hamilton said. "I don't want to say too much yet, because it's difficult to know. I've only driven in the rain, and there's much less [downforce](https://www.f1-fansite.com/glossary/downforce/) than last year," he added. Ferrari has yet to confirm when Hamilton's permanent race engineer will be named.
