For the whole of the 'power unit' era since 2014, [Mercedes](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/mercedes/) has clearly led the way and won every world championship. But Auto Motor und Sport claims that [Ferrari](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/ferrari-f1-information-statistics/) has caught up in 2018. "GPS measurements show that in terms of engine performance, [Ferrari](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/ferrari-f1-information-statistics/) has caught up with [Mercedes](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/mercedes/)," the report said. " [Mercedes](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/mercedes/) increased mileage from 5,000 to 8,000 kilometres (per engine), but [Ferrari](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/ferrari-f1-information-statistics/) found even more power over the winter," Auto Motor und Sport added. [Sebastian Vettel](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-drivers/sebastian-vettel/) confirmed: "On the straights, we're not losing time to [Mercedes](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/mercedes/)." The German magazine claims [Mercedes](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/mercedes/) this year went back to an oil specification that it used in 2016, as the FIA clamped down on a rule about oil consumption. Boss Toto Wolff said: "The measurements are not precise, so if you're on the limit, you risk sometimes going over it." Auto Motor und Sport, however, said [Ferrari](https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-teams/ferrari-f1-information-statistics/) is pushing ahead with a "full risk" strategy regarding the oil consumption rule. Does Toto Wolff think genuine f1 fans are numb nuts or something? Not a sniff of a front row lock out all season, Hamilton and Bottas both struggling at different times with a Merc with a twitchy back end and no rear grip( you can see it as plain as day when you watch it on screen!) and Hamilton nowhere near a win. Now Hamilton lucked in in Baku , that's the racing gods for you. Did he ever look like winning that race? No chance! Then Barcelona comes along with Toto yapping on about blistering, in testing. I don't remember Ferrari or Red Bull moaning about blistering in testing, and all of a sudden we have different guage tyres ,or we can't race on the old ones. No pressure from us ,says Toto. CRAP, sir I say to you. Front row lock out? Where the hell does that come from?,And Lewis sails off in the race like Vettel isn't moving. Sorry Toto your telling the fans lies and it stinks.000 2.
