Dec.5 - Alex Albon will either be retained by Red Bull or he will spend "a year on the bench" in 2021.

That is the word from boss Christian Horner, as Red Bull continues to assess whether Max Verstappen needs a faster teammate like Nico Hulkenberg or Sergio Perez.

Verstappen caused a stir after last weekend's Bahrain race by disparaging Albon's podium. Horner said on Friday that he excuses the Dutch driver for his outspokenness.

"I think Max just calls facts. I think that's the way he sees it," he said.

Verstappen has made clear his preference to be teamed with Hulkenberg for 2021, which would leave Albon without a seat at the eleventh hour.

Red Bull's second team AlphaTauri is reportedly pushing ahead with its plan to replace Daniil Kvyat next year with Japanese rookie Yuki Tsunoda.

"I don't believe he (Albon) forms part of Franz (Tost)'s plans for next year," said Horner, "so it's very much a Red Bull seat or a year on the bench.

"The focus is on giving him that opportunity - he's got two races, he did a good job last weekend, he has started well here and has two more weekends to demonstrate that he's absolutely the right guy to be in that car alongside Max next year.

"We're giving him all the support that we possibly can to achieve that goal," said Horner.

Based on RB driver relations history it is curious that they are giving ALB so much slack, especially with PER a free agent. Is something there that we don't see? C'mon media types, dig a little bit. Hell, at least start a cool conspiracy theory.

Verstappan is an exceptional driver fast, says it as he see it, he needs a quick team mate but is there anyone out there ... But as an F1 fan i will be swiching of from end of this year, Its all about rich kids with rich daddy's, Schumacher Jnr on the grid is the final straw for me, All the talants bypassed because they have no ( you guessed it ) Billionaire Daddy's

this site is brilliant for driver stats, which when comparing Perez,Hulkenberg,Gasly and Albon leaves one with the big question....what is so great about drivers who have been at it for many years, with over 180 races, hardly any podiums and maximum 1 win..oh, and older (yeah I'm an old guy too). This whole 'get Alex shit' is just statistical nonsense.
